Choose a Projector

The projector can be used both at home and at work (eg for presentations). The image is projected either on the wall or on a white screen (canvas). A note for home use, your projector should support 16:9 format. To find the projector you need, this article guides you.

The brightness
The brightness is essential for a good rendering of image. It is expressed in lumens. To obtain a correct image quality, the machine must have at least 2000 lumens. The larger the screen, the greater the brightness will be too. The contrast relates to the variation of light intensity of the brightest and darkest areas of the image. High contrast gives better color rendering. Most devices now offer a contrast ratio greater than 1000:1.
The most common projection technique is the DLP (Digital Light Processing). Texas Instruments is the author of this new technology. The light is powered digitally by a semiconductor. With this technology, the pixels become so small they are almost invisible. The produced image is of perfect quality in contrast and brightness.
The projector lamp
The projector lamp is an accessory not to be overlooked because its purchase price, when it comes to change it, remains high (it takes $ 650). The life of a lamp varies between 2000 and 3000 hours. Some devices offer a "economic mode' which allows to extend the life up to 5000 hours and reduce noise level. Of course, the image quality in economic mode is significantly lower. Projectors use two kinds of lamps: UHP (Ultra High Performance) and xenon lamps.
Keystone correction
Another term that you often find in the lexicons of projectors is the notion of 'keystone correction' (Cornerstone). This setting is in effect a digital compression which deforms and compresses the pixels in order to find a correct image geometry. It allows you to retrieve a rectangular image if your device is not properly positioned in relative to your screen (too high / low, too left / right).
The inlet ports
A projector has multiple inlet ports depending on the device to which you connect your device, namely: composite video, S-Video, RGB-YUV (PC), DVI and Data. Depending on the device to which you connect your projector, the resolution will not be the same. For hardware, this is VGA (640 x 480 pixels) to QXGA (1920 x 1440). For video equipment, the corresponding standard resolution to PAL signal is 1024 x 576 pixels.
Options
The majority of projectors offer, through the menu on the remote control, the superimposed picture function in picture or PIP (picture in picture). This function allows you to display simultaneously one or more video sequences (windows) in addition to the main image. We can therefore monitor the beginning of a show while doing something else.
Please note: It is important to make sure before purchasing that your device is compatible with the signal of the country in which you live. Existing signals are PAL, NTSC and SECAM. In Europe, the standard signal is PAL.
