The drugs are part of our daily lives. They treat us, prevent diseases or help to diagnose them. We consume them on an ad hoc or permanent... without knowing their composition, cons--indications or side effects.

The drug is a different consumption product.

The drug composition : active ingredient and excipients

The drug is used for preventing, treating or diagnosing a disease.

It consists of :

> an active ingredient : component that acts therapeutically,

> and one (or more) excipient (s) : used to make the consumable active ingredient.

Medication is beneficial for the patient from the time that the risk/benefit report is positive.

The result of this report leads or not to the placing on the market of a drug.

Types of preparation and commercial form

Drugs are available in different forms of preparations such as:

> the pharmaceutical preparation : prepared by the pharmacist or preparer of a pharmacy (city chemist),

> or hospital preparation : the drug is dispensed by the pharmacist of the own hospital pharmacy,

They are also available in different commercial forms such as :

> pharmaceutical specialty : prepared drug in advance, presented in a special pack and characterized by a special name;

> or the generic drug : drug that copies the active ingredient of a pharmaceutical specialty (or originator), but does not necessarily contain the same excipients.
